Before you start

  • You need to be the store's owner in Launch Desk (staff can't do this).
  • An Instagram Business or Creator account (personal accounts can't be connected)
  • No Facebook Page is needed
  • Plans: All plans. Credits: None. Connecting and posting don't use credits.

Steps

The Instagram card in Connections, before it's connected
  1. In Launch Desk, open Connections and find the Instagram card.
  2. Press Connect Instagram. Instagram’s sign-in opens. If you use more than one account, sign in to your store’s account.
  3. Instagram lists what Launch Desk asks for. Allow both: your basic profile, and publishing posts.
  4. You’re back in Launch Desk. A message says Instagram connected with your @username, and the card shows your account.

That’s it. Posts can now go to Instagram from the Publish step, now or on a schedule.

What Launch Desk can see

Only your account’s basic profile (name, account type, followers and number of posts), and only the posts you choose to publish. It never reads your messages, comments, followers’ details or insights.

Disconnect

On the Instagram card, press Disconnect. Nothing already posted is removed from Instagram. You can also remove Launch Desk in the Instagram app: Settings › Website permissions › Apps and websites.

Tips and limits

TipOne Instagram account per store. Change account swaps it for another.
TipIf you use more than one Instagram account, sign in to your store's account on instagram.com before you start.
LimitA Creator account must be public. Business accounts always are.
LimitInstagram limits how many posts an app can publish for one account each day. Normal use stays well inside it.

If something goes wrong

Instagram wasn't connected: the sign-in was cancelled.

The Instagram window was closed before you allowed access. Press Connect Instagram again and finish the sign-in.

The Instagram sign-in expired. Try again.

The sign-in took too long. Press Connect Instagram again.

The account is personal, not professional

In the Instagram app, open your profile, tap the menu (☰), then Account type and tools › Switch to professional account. Choose Business (best for most stores) or Creator, then connect again. Switching is free.

The wrong account connected

Instagram connects whichever account is signed in on this browser. Sign out on instagram.com, sign in to the store's account, then press Change account.
